STUDENT SECTION

SCHOOL WISDOM OF THE DAY: Don’t even bother to argue with a downer; you’ll end up just as far as he is. (Radford)

ATTENTION 11TH GRADE STUDENTS: with a GPA of 2.75 of over. We will be giving the PSAT on October 14th. This is an excellent opportunity to practice for the SAT. If you are interested in taking this test, you need to register at the ASB office by this Friday, September 25th. The cost is $13.00, but if you receive free or reduce lunch there is no charge. There are only 80 spots left!! (AP Reyes)

SENIOR PHOTOS: Seniors, you have until October 9th to take your senior picture at Chula Vista Photo. You will then have until October 28th to return your proofs to Chula Vista Photo. Any senior who has NOT RETURNED their proofs to CVP by that date will NOT be in the yearbook. (Gutierrez)

STUDENTS: There will be a “Jesus Freaks Bible Club” meeting on Thursday at lunch in Room 811. Everyone is welcome! (Skalicky)

STUDENTS: This Friday is KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Game of the Week! This is our House, Let us show the County on TV how loud and proud we are! Make plans to Go Green and Be Seen, Fill the Stands this Friday! (Salts)

ATTENTION STUDENTS: Many of you are asking if you can still join the Hooligans and Pep Club. We are an open club made up of the student body and you can join throughout the school year. But we expect members to regularly attend events, remember, commitment is a cornerstone of excellence. GO LANCERS!!! (Salts)

STUDENTS: MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been added to the “College/University Preview Days” list. If you have an interest in attending someday, this would be a great opportunity to learn what it takes to be admitted! Pick up a list in the Counseling Center. (Di Stefano)

HILLTOP FIELD HOCKEY: is hosting a “Pink” game for breast cancer on Friday, October 9th. We will be playing Eastlake in our first Metro League game at 3:00 pm on the Hockey field. Several members of our field hockey family are currently fighting breast cancer and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We would like to show our support and love for our family and all others by helping to find a cure. At our game we will have a snack bar. The proceeds will be donated to the Susan B. Kormen Fund. This game and activities are happening during our second week of vacation. We encourage all students to come support your field hockey team and the cause that we are fighting for . Thank you. LIBRARY UPDATE: Students it is very important that you make arrangements to clear out any valuables, including your textbooks, by tomorrow, Friday, September 25th. DO NOT leave textbooks in your locker over the two-week break as there tends to be locker vandalism over vacation. Remember if your books are damaged in any way you are held financially responsible. Take one or two books home each day so it will not be such a heavy load on Friday. Ms. R.

STUDENTS LOOKING FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS? Clearview Elementary School is looking for a few good teens to tutor 5th graders, in math, after school. Please call Lisa Menegus @ 619-278-1716. (Hitchcock)

SENIORS: The National CO-OP Scholarship is offering $6000 scholarships, renewable for the following schools: Drexel University; Johnson & Wales; Kettering; Pace, Rochester Institute of Technology; the University of Cincinnati; the University of Toledo and Wentworth Institute of Technology. SENIOR: If you have a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA, will be attending a 4 year college/university next fall and are actively involved in your community, pick up a Kyoto Scholarship. Worth up to 10,000. (Gerlack)

ALL GRADES: The 2009 PSA Video Contest is offering $1000 for a 60 second video where you show what $1000 could do for your school. Easy!! (Gerlack)

SENIORS: If you are applying to Mount St. Mary’s College, check out their merit-based awards. Awards ranging between $8000 and full ride. (Gerlack)

SENIORS: The AXA Achievement scholarship is worth $10,000 at the state level and $25,000 at the national level. This is a must but is obviously very competitive. They are looking for students who are goal oriented and have their future planned out. They are looking for serious community service/club involvement. Excellent grades are required. Pick an application up at the Counseling Center. (Gerlack)

SENIORS: Great scholarship opportunity. The Elks National Foundation offers scholarships from $8,000 to 60,000. It is based on GPA (3.5 minimum), leadership, community service, and financial need. Don’t worry about the financial need. Apply anyway. Scholarships are in the Counseling Center. (Gerlack)


FACULTY

PLC TIDBIT OF THE DAY: Essential learning includes the critical skills, knowledge, and dispositions each student must acquire as a result of each course, grade level, and unit of instruction. Essential learning may also be referred to as essential outcomes of power standards. (Radford)

ATTENTION WORLD GEOGRAPHY TEACHERS: On October 14th, 2009 Counselors will be conducting 4-year-plan presentations in your classrooms. The presentations should take the entire duration of the period. Students will be receiving important information about high school graduation requirements, university admission requirements, college testing, post secondary goals and the Compact For Success program. ATTENTION US HISTORY TEACHERS: Counselor presentations will take place in your classrooms on Monday, October 19th. A copy of this schedule was sent to your e-mail and was also placed in your teacher box. We wanted to give you the schedule early for your planning purposes. Counselors will be doing presentations that should take the entire duration of the period. The students will be receiving pertinent information on credit recovery, graduation and college requirements, and much more.
