STUDENT SECTION

SCHOOL WISDOM OF THE DAY: Homework is made up of two words: home WORK. Neither of these should be confused with other “four letter” words. (Radford)

SENIOR PICTURES: Seniors, we have 558 of you who had your senior photo taken! If you had your pictures taken the second week of vacation, your proofs are now ready to be picked up at Chula Vista Photo. Please return them quickly to give the photographer time to check for flaws in the photo of your choice. Others who still have proofs out, you are running out of time to get them back. Please return them immediately so CVP has the time to check for flaws. Any proofs not returned by Thursday, October 22nd, risk the chance of not being looked over for flaws. Any proofs not returned by October 28th will NOT be in the yearbook and a bill will be sent to the library, $5 per proof. (Gutierrez)

SENIOR FUNDRAISER: Seniors need to stop by Room 1511 before school, nutrition break, lunch time, after school to check out their Entertainment Book Fund Raiser supplies. We are selling the $20 book, and can take orders for the $40 book. Remember, 500 books is our goal to take $5000 off your senior prom. (Gutierrez)

ATTENTION SENIORS, JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES: Lt. Chad Raney from the Air Force ROTC program, will be here to discuss careers in the air force, becoming a pilot, and how to get scholarships to pay for your college education while in the ROTC program. See Ms. Gerlack in the counseling Center to sign up. (Gerlack)






STUDENTS: College bound seniors must apply to CSU’s & UC’s during October and November. During those months, we will proudly announce some of Hilltop’s finest college graduates! Today’s “Staff Spotlight” is Mr. Flower attended Michigan State. He majored in Geography. In order to be successful in college, Mr. Flower believes that students should develop an ability to concentrate for long periods of time. He also believes students should develop strong writing and speaking skills. Mr. Flower’s most memorable experience form college is dormitory life. Stop by Room 1513 if you would like more information regarding Michigan State or dormitory life. . (Di Stefano)

BOY’S BASKETBALL MEETING: Any boy wanting to tryout for this year’s 9th grade JV or Varsity teams. Please attend an important meeting on Tuesday, October 20th at lunch in the gym. (Vallero)

ATTENTION SENIORS: During the month of October we will be having college admission representatives visiting our campus. The Schools scheduled to visit us are UCSD, SDSU, Redlands and Mt. Saint Marys. A minimum of 2.75 GPA average is required to attend these presentations. If you are interested in attending any of these presentations please signup in the Counseling Center. (Ms. Del Rosario)

ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Are you considering attending an art school after high school? If so you may want to attend the FIDM information session on October 30th. There is no minimum GPA for this presentation and it is open to all interested Juniors and Seniors. Please sign up in the Counseling Center to reserve your space. (Ms. Del Rosario)

COLLEGE BOUND SENIORS: Please know that ANY “D” or “F” grade earned in the senior year will disqualify students from admission to SDSU or any UC campus. It is important to monitor your student progress as we approach the second progress report cycle ending October 30th. (Counselors)

SENIOR PHOTOS: Seniors, if your proofs are not back on file at Chula Vista Photo by October 28th, a digital copy will not be sent to Hilltop High, and you will not be in the yearbook. Any proofs not returned to Chula Vista Photo by October 28th will also be charged to you through a library fine, of $5 per photo. Please, return your proofs. (Gutierrez)

FACULTY

PLC TIDBIT OF THE DAY: “SMART goals” are Strategic & Specific Measurable, Attainable, Results-oriented, and Time bound. (Radford)

FLU SHOTS: Wednesday, October 21st, 8:00 to 4:30 and the District Office Board Room or Wednesday, November 4th, 3:30 – 5:30 at Rancho Del Rey Cultural Arts Center. Shots are for employees only and will be for the seasonal flu. Please contact your primary care physician for Swine Flu information. Please wear short sleeved shirts or blouses on the day you are planning to get your shot. Pneumonia shots will be offered for $50.00.

STAFF: Books Are Fun is back in the Attendance Office. Lots of cute things for early holiday shopping! Orders must be in and paid for today, Friday, October 16th, items will be delivered on Monday, October 19th. Thank you for supporting the school library. (Butler)

ATTENTION US HISTORY TEACHERS: Counselor presentations will take place in your classrooms on Monday, October 19th. A copy of this schedule was sent to your e-mail and was also placed in your teacher box. We wanted to give you the schedule early for your planning purposes. Counselors will be doing presentations that should take the entire duration of the period. The students will be receiving pertinent information on credit recovery, graduation and college requirements, and much more. ATTENTION WORLD GEOGRAPHY TEACHERS: Members of a professional learning community view conflict as a source of creative energy and an opportunity for building shared knowledge.
