Students promote reading through literature and a personalized persuasive poster.


Each student needs:

  • his/her favorite book,
  • an artifact that communicates a distinguishing characteristic, skill, interest, talent, or hobby,
  • appropriate clothing, and
  • appropriate background for a digital picture and poster.
Between January 7 - 11, students will:
  • Brainstorm and discuss the project.
  • View sample posters in the library media center and at Graphics Online.
  • Choose his/her favorite book, personal artifact, and appropriate clothing.
  • Choose background location in the library media center or create one.
  • Turn in a half-page essay on why the book and personal artifact were chosen.
  • Turn in a one-page layout sketch of the poster and background location.
  • Create the READ graphic.
  • Schedule a date to have his/her digital picture taken in the library media center.

Special Instructions


  • The poster must:
    • be personal in nature,
    • be 8 1/2 by 11 color poster appropriate for public display,
    • include one all time favorite book,
    • include one artifact that communicates a distinguishing characteristic, skill, interest, talent, or hobby,
    • include the READ graphic,
    • include an appropriate background,
    • be completed before January 18, and
    • be displayed.

  • Timeline
    • January 7 - 9
      • Brainstorm
      • Select and have available his/her all time favorite book, personal artifact, and clothing.
      • Determine the background.
      • Turn in essay and layout sketch by January 11.
      • Sign up for digital picture date.
    • January 14 - 16
      • Bring book, personal artifact, and appropriate clothing; prepare the background as needed; and take the digital picture as scheduled. 
    • January 16 - 18
      • Create READ graphic using Microsoft Word or TypeStyler.
      • Display the digital posters.

    Essay Typed essay with topic sentence supported by descriptive sentences about why the book and artifact were chosen; no language mechanics errors. Typed paragraph with with sentences identifying the book and artifact chosen; no more than 2 language mechanics errors. Paragraph with few descriptive details about the book and artifact chosen; more than 3 or more language mechnanics errors.  
    Poster Clearly promotes reading and communicates a distinguishing personal characteristic, skill, interest, talent, or hobby. Promotes reading and a personal characteristic, skill, interest, talent, or hobby but lacks one component. Lacks two or more components
